The new DAVID-SLS-2 scanner employs the innovative Structured Light technology, which allows precise 3D scanning in a matter of seconds. The scanner is mobile and can be placed easily in front of the surface to be scanned. A single click in the well-proven DAVID software starts the scan – and a few seconds later the digitized 3D model shows up on your screen!

This way you can subsequently scan all sides of the object, and finally combine them to a closed 360° model. The modular hardware setup allows a flexible adaptation to your object – any size from coin to couch is possible!

The results can be exported into common 3D file formats (OBJ, STL, PLY) and processed in other applications, e.g. for rapid prototyping, inspection, product presentations, archeology and cultural heritage, works of art, computer animations, video games… The limits are set only by your imagination!

Description

This advanced model enhances the well proven structured-light-technology with a way better handling. Never before it has been easier to adjust a 3D-scan-system on scan objects taking different terms and various scan object sizes into account.

The scanner is mobile and can be positioned easily in front of the surface to be scanned.

A single click in the well proven DAVID software starts the scanning process and a few seconds later the digitised 3D model appears on the screen – even the colours of the object can be optionally captured and reproduced in the resulting scan!

You are able to scan all of the sides of the object in succession and subsequently render an enclosed 360° model.

The 3D model can be exported to standard 3D file formats (such as OBJ, STL and PLY) and processed in other applications.

This package contains everything you need to set up your own 3D scanner. Just hold the laser in your hand and sweep the laser line over the object you wish to scan: a sculpture, a face, anything at all. DAVID LASERSCANNER will immediately generate a 3D model in your PC, capturing even fine surface details of less than 0.2 millimeter.

Laser Scanning

All you require is a video camera (e.g. webcam), a line laser (we offer suitable, cost-efficient laser modules), and a 90° “corner” as background.

Our Starter-Kit contains selected hardware and offers the best value for money. If you want to build your own scanner, please see FAQ for more hardware recommendations.

Structured Light Scanning

Structured Light Scanning uses a video projector instead of a laser. Advantages: No 90° corner required during scanning. No manual laser movement. Much faster scanning. Turntable support for fully-automated 360° scanning.

360° Scanning

In order to obtain an all-around scan of your object, you simply create single scans from different directions; the DAVID 3D Scanner software is able to align and fuse the scans to a textured 360-degree-model. Of course the most comfortable way is using our TT-1 turntable, plus manually you can add scan views from the top or bottom side.

The surface data can be exported to the well-known file formats .OBJ, .STL, and .PLY. This allows you to import them in 3rd-party software for further processing, e.g. measurement, milling or 3d printing.

High-precision 3D scanning at an unbeatable price DAVID4 is a very low-cost system for contact-free scanning of 3d objects. The only hardware requirements are a simple commercial hand-held laser and a standard camera. With reasonable hardware, the scan accuracy is around 0.1% of the object size. User-friendly handling The user interface of DAVID4 is easy to use and the scanning process is very simple. Just take a lightweight laser module and sweep the laser line over the object. The flexible illumination direction prevents laser shadow problems and allows you to scan surface parts that remain inaccessible by other scanners. You can scan the objects from all sides, even from the top and the bottom. Supports Laser Scanning and Structured Light Scanning DAVID is the first and only software that supports both, “classic” Laser Scanning AND Structured Light Scanning! Structured Light (SL) makes scanning faster and easier. For this method you can use a standard video projector instead of the line laser. Compatible to most cameras with DirectShow / Microsoft Windows drivers (WDM) You can use nearly every MS-Windows compatible camera with DirectShow / WDM support, like your web-cam or fire-wire camera. You can even use your camcorder if you can connect it to your PC (and if you have suitable DirectShow / WDM drivers). Highly flexible and scalable setup The scan setup is very scalable. You can simply scale the whole setup up or down to scan small or big object sizes – from coins to cars! In combination with a laptop you get a very stable and mobile scan solution. Integrated 3d viewer Inspect your 3d model right after scanning with DAVID’s integrated OpenGL-based 3D viewer. Outlier removal You can select and delete surface parts easily with your mouse. Align and merge multiple scans With our fully integrated tool called “Shape Fusion” you can align and merge multiple scans that were made from different viewing directions. A precise alignment of your scans is very easy. Just choose one of several registration modes and a few seconds and mouse clicks later, you get the aligned result. You can fuse/merge the aligned scans with a single mouse click. The result is a connected regular triangle mesh. Our fusion method is more than just an ordinary mesh stitching, since it calculates the average of overlapping surface parts, reduces noise and outliers and optionally fills all remaining holes. User-defined mesh resolution and mesh smoothness You can define the mesh resolution and smoothness value to optimize the fusion result for your intended application. Texture support You can grab camera shots that will be used as texture. In all alignment and fusion steps, textures are processed along with the 3d data. The result is a fused triangle mesh with a fused texture. DAVID4 exports texture coordinates, which allows you to import the textured object in third-party software. Projects All data (e.g. scans, textures, transformations, …) can be quickly saved to and loaded from single project files. Export your scanned objects as OBJ, PLY, or STL files DAVID4 supports the Alias Wavefront OBJ file format, the stereolithography STL file format and the Polygon File Format PLY, wich are well-established formats for triangle meshes and are supported by many other 3d applications. Hardware can be reused for other applications Since DAVID4 is a pure software solution that does not rely on specific hardware, you can save money and re-use your own hardware (especially your camera or video projector) for other things. Support for DAVID turntables DAVID Turntables are supported out of the box.
Quality inspection With DAVID4 you can compare scans to a 3D reference model. Variances are color coded in 3D or given as signed distance values for user selected surface points. Length measurements Simply need metric distance between point pairs on scans? No problem. Custom turntable support DAVID4 supports a simple C plugin interface for turntables. This allows to integrate own turntables into DAVID4. Remote control DAVID4 can be controlled by your own application using the DAVID SDK.
